Spring Term
Useful Information
Week Ending:14.03.25- A Stroll Through Seasons
This week the children had been set with the challenge to spot signs of Spring. We have been out about around the school environment to see all sorts of signs of Spring.
Week Ending:07.03.25 - Rubbish! Don’t throw it away
We have had a busy week reusing and recycling different materials. Our main text by Linda Newbury and Katie Rewse has made us think about the ways in which we use things. We have been busy crafting our recyclable materials into new and useful objects. The children had a great time using huge cardboard boxes in lots of different creative ways.
We also celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as our favourite book characters. We had lots of fun sharing our favourite stories.
Week Ending: 28.02.2025 - Clean Up!
This week we have been looking at rubbish in the ocean. The children have used fishing rods and grippers to put the rubbish in the bin and keep the sea life safe in the ocean. In the wet sand trays the children have been using nets and pincers to try and take the rubbish out. This was tricky as the rubbish was embedded in the sand. Great job everyone for keeping our sea life safe and the ocean clean 🙂
Week Ending: 14.02.25 - The Pig in the Pond
This week was all things pig related. We had pigs in the tuff tray, farms in the block area, making mud in the court yard and matching alphabet pigs.
Each week the children have also been learning a different poem off by heart. The poems are based on a variety of topics. At the end of the week the children stand up and perform them in class. The filming of the weeks poem can be found on the class dojo page.
Week Ending: 07.02.25 - The little Red Hen
Inspired by our key text this week, we made bread rolls. The children mixed the flour with the water, they then knead their dough and rolled it into a ball. We then baked the rolls which made the classroom smell lovely 😊. The children enjoyed eating their rolls for snack today, and could choose butter or jam as their topping. 🙂
Week Ending: 31.01.25 – The very Hungry Caterpillar
This week we have reading ‘The very Hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle. In the tuff tray the children created their own butterfly lifecycles using different types of pasta for the different stages of the cycle. The maths focus this week was weight and measure. The children were really goods at making the scales balance, heavier and lighter. They were able to use a range of objects of their choosing to show their own learning.
Week Ending: 24.01.25 – Rumble in the Jungle.
During our outside learning this week, the children worked together to solve different problems. They were able to move a ball along some tubes and back again without it falling.
During our PE lesson this week, we were inspired by our key text of the week and moved as different animals from our book. The children were able to identify the different animals and their habitats.
The library is now up and running at school, so we went for our first visit. It was a great success, they children loved the experience and all went home with a library book.
Week Ending: 17.01.25
We have looked at tea parties this week and have had our very own. Our text of the week was ‘The tiger who came to tea’ by Judith Kerr. We looked at where Tigers live in the wild and learn some fascinating facts about them. At the painting easel, the children used the animals to print patterns in a range of different colours. This week, the children made biscuits and decorated them beautifully inspired by tigers for our own tea party.
Week Ending: 10.01.25
First week back into the new year and it has been amazing. The children have been learning all about Owls after reading ‘Owl Babies’ by Martin Waddell. As a class we have designed some habitats perfect for owls. Learnt about nocturnal and diurnal animals. We have also looked at animals that hibernate.
One of the owl inspired activities was to make a collage owl. The children had to tear and glue brown paper onto an outline of an owl to give an effect of feathers. Then they used scissors to cut out a beak and used a pen to draw some eyes on. The results were really effective.
Throughout the week, the children were representing numbers 0 to 5 in multiple different ways.
