Information for Parents and Carers:
Week ending 14th February
The children have had a great final week of the half term. In English, we have been so impressed with their stories inspired by the book 'Street child'. The children wrote their own part of the story to what they think would happen next. They made their stories exciting and showed great awareness of the reader. In Maths, the children have continued to develop their understanding of measuring and calculating perimeter. For safer internet day, the children learned about how to stay safe online. The theme this year is “Too good to be true. How to protect yourselves and others from scams online.” This half term, the children have enjoyed our Art topic on prehistoric art. They have made their own paint using spices and then used them to create positive and negative hand prints. We have been really proud of them this half term and we hope that you all have a good week off.
Art
Week Ending 7th February
We have had such a busy week in Years 3 and 4. In Maths, the children have started their unit of work based on measuring. They have enjoyed practically measuring items using different units of measure. In our English lessons, we have been recounting what has happened so far in our class text “The street child”. They have used amazing vocabulary and lots of different sentence types to make their writing fantastic. We have been incredibly impressed with their writing. The improvements that they have made in their writing so far this year have been fantastic. We are looking forward to their stories next week. In Science, the children have been learning about soil. The children know the four components that soil is made from and are able to describe the processes of soil formation.
Week Ending 31st January
This week has been a busy week of learning for all of Year 3/4! In English, we have focused our learning on starting our sentences in a range of way. This has made our writing more interesting. In Maths, the children have further enhanced their understand of division. Some children have spent time looking at dividing 2 digit numbers by 1 digit. In our Science lesson, we became fossil hunters and learned about the work of palaeontologists. The children are able to explain what fossils are and can describe the fossilisation process. The children have been researching significant people in science with a particular focus on Mary Anning’s contribution to fossils and palaeontology.
Week Ending 24th January
This week has been a busy week of learning for all of Year 3/4! In English, we have been planning and writing our own playscripts written around the silent clip, 'The wish'. In Maths, the children have further enhanced their understand of multiplication and division. Some children have spent time looking and multiplying 2-digit by 1-digit numbers and others have been exploring the 'short method' of multiplication and division. The children have spent time in Science learning about how fossils are formed. They then used plaster of paris to create their own cast fossil. In our History lesson, we travelled back into the Victorian time period and explored what working life was like for a poor Victorian child.
Science
Week Ending 17th January
We have had a fantastic week in Year 3/4. In our English lessons, we have been exploring and writing play scripts. The children were able to link this new learning to the Christmas play that we performed. In Maths, the children have continued to develop methods for multiplication and division. In our History lesson, we travelled back into the Tudor time period. We role played being Tudor children and explored what working life was like for poor children. During our P.E lessons, the children have been working on their fitness and have enjoyed a circuits style workout.
Week Ending 10th January
Happy New Year! The children have had a great first week back. They have got stuck right back into their learning this week. In English, the children have been learning about how to vary pronouns to make their writing more interesting. They have also been writing sentences using lists of three to describe characters and their actions. At the end of the week, the children started to look at playscripts in preparation for next week's learning. In Maths, they have been deepening their understanding of multiplication and division using informal methods. They have also been looking at money and how to use it. Across the rest of the curriculum, the children had a great time learning about our new topic how children’s lives have changed through time. Our topic this term in Science is rocks. The children have learned to identify if a rock is natural or human made.
