Week ending 31st January

Outside this week, the children have made kites for the very windy weather we have been having. They investigated what made their kite fly well and what they would do to make it better next time. The Year 2's also made a variety of kites and gliders to explore which flew best as well as how air resistance impacted the flight of their kite. 

Week ending 7th February

The children have been learning about road safety outside this week. They have used chalked out roads to practise their road crossing skills and ensure they know how to be safe near roads. They have been incredibly sensible and have really understood the importance of this.

Week ending 31st January

Week ending 24th January

The children have had a great week of learning about measurement outside. They have explored measurements using a variety of measuring equipment. They began by comparing lengths and then moved on to accurately measure and record a whole host of things they found outside. 
 

Week ending 17th January

In our outdoor learning sessions this week, the children have investigated air resistance by making paper helicopters and airplanes. They tested to see how the size affected it's speed, making predictions first and then concluding afterwards.

They have also been on shape hunts, taking time to count sides and corners to check they have identifies the shape correctly as well as practising their tallying skills to record their findings. 

Week ending 10th January

We made the most of the extremely cold weather and went for a walk outside to observe the season of winter. The children made excellent observations, describing what they could see, hear, smell and feel, and how they knew that showed us it was winter. The children observed the evergreen and deciduous trees, as well as nests, berries, shadows, birds and the aroma of fire smoke. 
 

Week ending 20th December

This week, the children have used sticks to create some fabulous twiggy tree decorations during their outside learning sessions. They had to think about the sizes of the sticks they were using to ensure they created a triangle shape.

Week ending 6th December

The children have begun to use resources outside to make Christmas decorations. This week, they made reindeers using leaves and sticks. 

Week ending 15th November

The children completed their two week project this week learning about Guy Fawkes, why people celebrate bonfire night and bonfire safety. Inspired by this information and the wonderful autumnal leaves, they have made bonfire pictures using natural resources.

Week ending 18th October

The children have really made the most of outside learning this week and have been incredibly busy! They began the week by making the most of the puddles to investigate floating and sinking. They made predictions first, before testing out different items and recording the result. They also finished their designed vases by adding foraged items and used recycled materials to create some art.

Week ending 11th October

This week, the children got their wellies on and went exploring on the field to find out what was still growing, using their sense of smell to investigate some of the herbs and flowers.

Week ending 4th October

This week the children have taken rubbings of different textures in the outside area. They have also been weaving and have added texture with different natural materials. 
To bring some maths outside, they used natural materials to create graphs and charts. The Year 1’s also practised their name writing with brushes and water. 

Week ending 27th September

Again, the children have loved experiencing outdoor learning this week. On Thursday, they got stuck into our Groundforce morning with such determination. They did an amazing job weeding our sensory garden to get it ready for us to make the area a calming space to be.

Week ending 20th September 

This week, the children have been season spotting outside and have made some fantastic observations that show them autumn is on the way.

They have also learnt about the artist Andy Goldsworthy and created some wonderful outside art inspired by his work.

Thursday 5th September

Today was our 'Ground Force' day.  Children spent time outside working on our school grounds - we were able to incorporate some of our Diamond Learning Goals during the session.

It is our aim for children to spend time outside each week - this might be respecting our grounds and maintaining an aesthetic look or curriculum learning that builds on subjects taught in class.
